Make Cura predictable before making it advanced
Cura exposes a large number of configurable slicing settings, but most print failures do not require changing dozens of values. Start with the correct printer, nozzle, material, and quality profile. Then make only the settings that explain the symptom visible and change one group at a time. That keeps a simple profile from turning into an undocumented pile of overrides.
1. Start from a clean profile
If a Cura profile has been copied, imported, or edited for months, compare it with a clean base profile before troubleshooting individual values.

Unexpected dimensions can come from scale, horizontal expansion, line-width behavior, or a profile intended for a different machine or nozzle.
◆3. Separate adhesion from extrusion
Check bed condition and Z setup before compensating with excessive first-layer flow, width, or temperature.
◆4. Tune temperature before extreme retraction
Stringing is influenced by material condition, nozzle temperature, travel, and retraction. Fix the cause instead of using one aggressive value everywhere.

Support density alone is not the answer. Contact distance, interface behavior, cooling, orientation, and overhang geometry decide surface quality.
◆6. Control heat and first-layer stress
Warping needs a stable first layer, appropriate bed/nozzle temperatures, sensible cooling, and geometry that does not concentrate shrinkage stress.
Use Cura settings as a diagnosis tree
If the same failure appears on every model, look first at the machine, filament, or base material profile. If the failure appears only on one model, inspect orientation, support strategy, walls, infill, and local features. If a problem begins immediately after switching profiles, compare the changed settings rather than re-tuning the printer from scratch.
A useful Cura workflow is to keep one conservative profile that is known to print reliably and clone it only for a specific purpose: faster draft prints, stronger parts, difficult supports, or a particular material. Name those profiles by purpose so you can return to a stable baseline instead of guessing which hidden override changed.
