Pick the right material

Material Decision Engine

Material choice changes adhesion, cooling, strength, detail, drying, enclosure needs and safety. Choose by job requirement instead of guessing from popularity.

What do you need?

Need the easiest material

PLA or PLA+

Low heat resistance; excellent for prototypes, decor and most STLBEAST display pieces.

Need stronger functional parts

PETG, ASA, nylon or reinforced blends

Use dry filament, slower speeds and appropriate nozzle choices.

Need flexible parts

TPU/TPE

Use direct drive if possible, slow speeds and a constrained filament path.

Need outdoor resistance

ASA or PETG

PLA can deform and fade outdoors; ASA needs ventilation and enclosure awareness.

Need heat resistance

ASA, ABS, PC blends or nylon

Requires correct ventilation, drying and machine capability.

Need sharp decorative detail

PLA, silk PLA or resin

Resin gives highest detail, but requires PPE, washing and curing.

Need sanding and painting

PLA, PLA+ or resin

Use primer, layer-height control and post-processing workflow.

Need carbon/glass/wood-filled look

Filled materials

Use hardened nozzle and watch extruder wear.

Need miniature/resin quality

Standard, tough or ABS-like resin

Tune exposure, supports, lift and curing.

STLBEAST ecosystemUse Hub to solve the print. Use STLBEAST to print something worth keeping.
